I recently discovered Tumblr again. I’ve been using it since 2008 but only followed a few people. Now that I’ve been following more people, I believe Tumblr is probably one of the biggest things right now. Bigger than Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter in some ways. It’s funny how things I’ve lost interest in a while ago like Tumblr and Reddit has really taken off again. I’m also a fan of HN, 9Gag and LayerVault News.
So what makes Tumblr more amazing than the others? I feel Facebook has become a social media marketing platform and a place where I find bland news interrupted by pictures of people’s diets. Pinterest is a place for older women. And Twitter seems to be littered with work related stuff. Instagram seems like the picture taking tool for Twitter and Facebook. Tumblr on the other hand has the freshest and most diverse content out there. The community is super active and things found there soon go viral elsewhere. It feels like myspace back in the day where people had their online identities and shared their interests and met people with similar interests. I’m very excited to see how Tumblr evolves.
I also love their new log in page.
- It has a beautiful background picture.
- Provides stats on tumblr.
- Links to engaging content.
- Allows you to sign up and login using the same form! Dropbox also does this.
Brandon did a UX Analysis on Tumblr recently and it’s a really great article.
